if you’re going to grow only 1 tree peony, then I suggest Kinkaku.

Kinkaku’s large, fully double flowers have yellow petals that are streaked with orangey, dusky maroon.

Once established, Kinkaku flowers freely, with each plant producing many flowers.

For us the plant has been very disease free, establishes itself quickly and is a reliable if slow grower.

Flowers are citrus-scented.

Do be aware that Kinkaku’s flowers are down-ward facing. However, their tremendous beauty more than compensates for the plant habit. Consider planting Kinkaku in an elevated part of the garden so that the flowers can be viewed from below.

A great tree peony for those new to peony cultivation

Though most commercially available tree peonies are 1-2 years old, our 2019 stock is 5+ years old.

This means you receive a very-well established plant that, if planted well, may even produce buds the year immediately after it is planted.

Please note, to minimize transplant shock, we do prune these large plants prior to shipping.

However, if you do NOT want your tree peony pruned, please contact us. We can arrange for a custom shipping in a larger box. Please note shipping costs will be higher for unpruned tree peonies.

All bare-root peonies ship Sept-Oct.
