Jubilejny

$24.00

Disclaimer: This is an unregistered, Eastern European variety that may not be true to name

We purchased this variety about a decade ago. It has turned out to be a very garden and cut flower worthy cultivar. However, I have my doubts about whether it’s the plant originally introduced by Russian breeder Krasnova in 1959.

Here’s where our plant conforms to historical descriptions for Jubilejny

  • It is light pink with yellow base inside

  • The pink fades to white over time

  • It show tendencies toward being high built (though it hasn’t yet fully acheived that in our fields)

  • The stems require support under the weight of the flowers

  • The bloom time is approximately correct

On these fronts, our plant seems different

  • Our blooms have red streaking on edges. Some sources indicate red streaking . Others do not

  • Our flowers are medium sized not large. That said, we have never let our plant grow larger than about a 3- year division. Flower size may increase as plants mature.

Long story short, this is a great cultivar but please buy it understanding it may not be authentic.

Here’s why it’s worth considering anyway:

It blooms heavily with subtle fragrance. The color combination is particularly pleasant and soft. It presents a fairly unique bloom - quite different than most any other lactiflora we currently grow. Finally, It shows great promise wrt resliience.

Do I think this is the “real” Jubilejny? I’m bit skeptical.

But do I think it’s a garden or flower farm worthy plant? Undoubtedly.
